Menjay-SchoolThe construction of Menjay Middle Secondary School in Lhuentse has been delayed by almost a year. Construction is, however, expected to be completed by the end of this year.

The students of the school have their classes in a hut, which looks no better than a temporary shelter. During the rainy season, they have to look for spots to sit on where water does not drip from the ceiling. The students said they cannot hear, what is being taught when it rains

Had the construction been completed on time, the school would have already had boarding facilities.

In spite of these hiccups, the Principal of the school, Karma Wangchuk, says there are no major problems. “We tend to solve minor problems ourselves and the community helps us as well. The construction company is helping us and supporting us the best they can”.

There are people in Menjay who remain skeptical about construction works being completed within this year. They say progress has been sluggish.

The contractor was not available for comments, and the engineers were not allowed to speak to BBS as well.

The school is being built at a cost of Nu.195 million.
