The Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) has approved to move Bachelor of Science (Computer Science)  from Sherubtse College to Gyalpozhing College of Information Technology (GCIT) from July this year.

Initially, Gyalpozhing College has proposed to the RUB to introduce two new programs, B.Sc.Computer Science and B. Sc. in Information Technology.

However, only one program has been approved so far.

“B.Sc.IT is yet to be approved by the RUB. Since we are fully prepared, I am hopeful that this course will get approval too. The course is exciting because it is non-conventional and non-traditional in its approach. So, it’s kind of innovative teaching practices. I think we should be able to do well, ” Lhato Jamba, the President of GCIT, said.

He also the college has also a different teaching method called learning by doing, which will enable students to develop analytical and other skills that will help them to find jobs easily.

“ We are ready in terms of faculty members. Our faculty members are trained in learning by doing approach and they will be in the college by the end of June 2019 to launch this program,” he added.

Officials from RUB said validation of B.Sc in IT is taking time since it’s entirely a new program and it requires the development of a new curriculum to begin the program. The second validation sitting will take place next month.

However, Officials said, B.Sc. Computer Science has been already there in Sherubtse College and doesn’t need much time to move it to GCIT.

B.Sc. Computer Science is a conventional kind of program that includes theoretical computer program while B.Sc. IT will be more related to a computer application program.

The college was formally inaugurated in October 2017. At present, there are 149 students studying Bachelors in Computer Application in the college.
