The construction of a river protection wall along the river in Haa town has failed to meet the deadline. The works was supposed to be complete by June this year. The construction began in May last year.
According to the Project Engineer, Kinley Gyeltshen, cold weather in winter held up the cement work for almost three months. He said the difficulty in procuring raw materials also hampered the pace of the project.
He added that the land along the river is privately owned. “The retention walls could not be widened. Therefore the structures are being built with high walls, to ensure safety of the town from floods.”
The cost of the 2.55 kilometer river protection wall, a GOI funded project, has come up to Nu. 59 million.
