The chopper, supposed to ferry mother and her prematurely-born triplets, could not land at the Gelegphu Airport today, because of poor weather condition.

It had made a detour, from Paro to Monggar, to pick up another patient. The chopper had then, flown to Gelephug to pick up the mother and the triplets but couldn’t land. Instead, it had to fly to Bumthang.

The woman, 30, from Drukjeygang under Dagana Dzongkhag had given birth to the triplets at the Gelephug Regional Referral Hospital, yesterday.

In absence of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Gelephug, they had been referred to the National Referral Hospital in Thimphu.

The chopper will try to bring the mother and the triplets to Thimphu, tomorrow. They are said to be in a stable condition.
