Farm road is a necessity for the growth of a village. A road is, in most of the cases, followed by developmental facilities. Bainang Gonpa-Mangthari village in Serduwa chiwog, Dungmaed Gewog, Pema Gatshel will soon have their dream for a farm road fulfilled.
Dungmaed Gewog has approved the construction of a 5.6 km farm road for Serduwa chiwog with a budget of about nu 3 M from the 2018-2019 fiscal year budgets which is expected to be completed in 10 months. The groundbreaking work started on May 21.
To reach the road point, people of Mangthari village have to walk more than 3 hours today. They grow vegetables and oranges as their cash crop but face lots of hardship in transporting their products to the market at present.
“They grow oranges in Mangthari village. Since they have no access to road connectivity, they are unable to sell their products on time. Their lands are left fallow because what they grow for a decent income remains as unsold in the village only. They face lots of problem at present,” Ugyen Tshering, the Dungmaed Gup, said.
“We also grow oranges but we are unable to carry it to the road point, as most of the people are old. We have timbers in our community forest but we can’t reap the benefit without a road. And when someone gets sick, we can’t reach the hospital on time.” Tashi Wangchuk, the Chiwog Tshogpa, said.
After the groundbreaking ceremony of the farm road, the Gup said that the farm road will benefit the community immensely.
“It will directly help to make them self sufficient. They grow vegetable and maize aside from oranges. If we don’t construct a farm road in their village, the village will never develop. This farm road will solve most of their problem,” the Gup added.
“We are expecting an increase in the income of the villagers from the sale of oranges and timbers once the village is connected to the market via this farm road. We are also thinking we can do something according to our capacity. We are expecting lots of benefit from this farm road,” Serduwa chiwog tshogpa added.
Most of the people living in the village are age-old parents. Today there are over thirty households in Serduwa chiwog.
