Following the first confirmed case of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country, the Office of Consumer Protection (OCP) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs asks business entities to strictly adhere to the Consumer Protection Act of Bhutan 2012.

Business entities in the country are asked to refrain from hoarding goods and services, charging exorbitant price and unfairly denying their sale taking situational advantage and engaging in any unethical and unfair trade practices such as price rigging and collusive price fixation.

Business entities are also asked to affix price tag on the goods displaying applicable price and issue money receipts upon the sale of goods.

The office warns that noncompliance will be dealt as per the Consumer Protection Act of Bhutan 2012 and Rules and Regulations thereof including cancellation of business license and any other appropriate actions.

If consumers find themselves falling victim to such unfair trade practices, they are urged to notify the OCP through the toll-free number 1214 or any other means they are comfortable with.
