The new SAARC Forestry Building was inaugurated in the capital,this morning, by the Minister of Agriculture and Forests, Yeshey Dorji, and the Ambassador of India to Bhutan V.P Haran.
It was decided in 2008 that the SAARC forestry centre would be hosted in Bhutan.
There are 11 such centres in the SAARC region; all with different mandates, Bhutan’s is forests. Bhutan was chosen to host the centre as the country has over 72 percent forest cover.
The SAARC Forestry building was funded by the Indian Government.
