The bus fares for all the passengers’ transport service around the Country will increase from Monday depending on the distance, sitting capacity, and the types of bus.

The fare has been revised by an average of 3.4 percent for the inter-district routes. For instance, the bus fare for a coaster bus from Thimphu to Phuentsholing will now cost Nu.207 instead of Nu.200 per person.

To travel by coaster bus from Thimphu to Trashigang now costs Nu. 645 per person. It will go up by Nu.22 taking the fare to Nu.667 per person.

The revised fare is because of the recent increase in diesel prices. It is also because of increase in operation cost.”

Similarly, the fares for the local and city services will be increased by 4.8 percent on an average.

The revised fare charts will be distributed to all regional and base offices for distribution to bus operators.

The Chief Transport Officer of Road Safety and Transport Authority (RSTA), Karma Pemba said the revision of the fares was calculated using approved Bus Fare Revision Model by the information and communication ministry. “We also looked at the affordability of the passengers. We tried to balance between the affordability and also the operation cost,” he said.

He also added that RSTA revises the bus and taxi fare annually.
