Aspiring fashion designers launched a cloth exhibition in the capital today. The exhibition, at the Nehru-Wangchuck Cultural Centre, showcases western clothing made from Bhutanese textiles.
A Bhutanese fashion designer, Dorothy Gurung conceptualized the exhibition.
She said she wanted to experiment Bhutanese textiles to design western outfits.
“Tourists buy embroidered Bhutanese attires and once they return back to their countries, it serves no purpose. So, I was eager to try out designing western dresses with our local textiles,” said Dorothy.
She recently trained aspiring fashion designers to make international outfits by using Bhutanese fabric.
“These days, even a university graduate cannot easily get a job. If one is innovative and enterprising, one can be able to earn a living,” said an aspiring designer, Tshewang Lhamo.
