The first edition of the Bhutan Football Federation’s President’s Cup will kick-off at Gyalpoizhing in Monggar from next week. Seven teams will compete in a league-cum-knockout format. The first match will be played on January 5.

According to the BFF, the tournament will be the biggest tournament the federation has ever organized in the eastern region. The top five teams from the Bhutan Premier League which includes Paro FC, Thimphu City FC, Transport United FC, Druk Lhayul FC and Ugyen Academy will compete on away soil.

FC Youngster from Monggar and Sherubtse Football Club from Trashigang are the two other teams in the tournament.

All the matches will be played at the Gyalpoizhing artificial turf ground.

The 10-day competition is aimed at keeping the top BPL clubs engaged during the off season. It is also to provide opportunity to local teams to compete against the best and to promote football in the eastern region.
