You don’t have to walk to an ATM, the ATM comes to you. That is the Bank of Bhutan’s latest scheme- a van with an ATM and two officials will offer you all the banking services.

Besides the ATM service, the mobile bank also provides other services like cash deposits and withdrawals. With an ATM on one side, two bank officials inside the van wait for customers. The service though on a week-long trial, will be made permanent if successful.

According to the Bank’s IT head, Sonam Kesang, the purpose for starting the banking van was to get closer to their clients.

He also said the Bank was planning to make a schedule for the van and announce it to the public.

The Bank has only one van at the moment. It is planning to get additional vans in the future and dispatch them at public gatherings and other places where money transactions will take place.
