The Bangladeshi government has assured Bhutan of LC or letters of credit that Bangladeshi importers use to pay Bhutanese orange exporters. A Letter of Credit is a payment mechanism used in international trade that guarantees the buyer’s payment to the seller from a creditworthy bank.

According to the Agriculture Ministry, due to the ongoing crisis of US dollars in Bangladesh, most of its banks had limited the opening of LCs.

Bhutan exports 90 per cent of its oranges to Bangladesh.
