Lhuentse Dzongkhag is considered one of the most remote Dzongkhags in the country. Being one of the remote districts, Lhuentse faces many challenges, including acute shortage of housing.
The Lhuentse Dzongda, Tshering Kelzang, agrees that the Dzongkhag faces an acute shortage of housing. “There are shopkeepers who are constructing houses.” He, however, said the constructions have come to a standstill owing to the Rupee crunch the country is currently facing.
Many civil servants who are posted to Lhuentse are staying makeshift huts. Some are even sharing their space. “I feel sorry for them,” said Tshering Kelzang. He said they expect the problem to be solved in about a year or two.
The Dzongda says development activities coming to Lhuentse are challenged because it’s rough geographical terrain. Lhuentse has an area of 2, 888 square kilometres. It has a population of over 16,000.
