Anthrax outbreak in Kanglung and Khaling

Five cows died after an outbreak of Anthrax was reported at Yonphula and Jomrey under Kanglung and Khaling Gewog in Trashigang on February 13. Local residents informed about the death of their animals five days after the outbreak.

On February 18morning a team from Dzongkhag livestock sector, Khangma Regional livestock development center and Kanglung BHU carried out an investigation. It was confirmed that the death of the cows were from anthrax outbreak.

The Programme Director of Khangma Regional livestock development centre said 57 local residents were given Antibiotic treatment for directly or indirectly exposing to the disease. An awareness programme was also conducted for the local residents.

Our reporter,Tshering Phuntsho, said animal sheds, carcasses and premises of the affected animals were burnt to prevent from further getting the disease.

Officials said the disease has been brought under control and treatment is going on for those who are affected.
