The new bailey bridge at Nyasi Zampa in Wangdue Phodrang is expected complete soon. The bridge will benefit the people of Nahi Gewog particularly those in Eusa Gongm, Eusa Wogm and Nagbisa Chiwogs.

The old bridge, which was constructed with support from JICA, was washed away by a flood in 2016, cutting off the three gewogs’ access to motorable road.

In the absence of a bridge, people drive their vehicles through the river to cross over to the either side, but it is not an easy thing to do. It’s particularly challenging for light vehicles to wade through.

Locals hope the new bridge would be completed before monsoon sets in.

A private construction company that is building the bridge is waiting for an expert from the Construction Development Corporation Limited (CDCL) to launch the bridge.

“We were told it will not take more than a week to launch the bridge after the expert arrives and we are happy to know that,” Chador from Eusa Gongm Chiwog said.

The gewog administration expects the bridge construction to be complete by the end of this month.

The bridge is being built at a cost of Nu 10.5 m from the Department of Disaster Management. Nyasi Zampa is about 12 kilometers away from Bajo town.
