Bhutan is all set to go to polls for the third National Council (NC) election tomorrow. Some 5,600 officials are deployed at 866 polling stations across the country.

The Election Commission said of the total 432,030 registered voters, about 343,030 voters are expected to vote in person on the poll day. The remaining 88,915 are registered postal voters.

One hundred and twenty seven (127) aspiring candidates are going to contest for this election. Gasa has the lowest number of voters with just 2,000 while Trashigang tops the list with nearly 47,000 registered voters.

With final touches here and there, polling booths have been set up, ready for voters. The ECB said all the officials have reached their respective polling stations yesterday for the smooth conduct of the election.

“As far as the preparation and readiness are concern we are ready. We have 866 polling stations across the country and all these are ready. We have been receiving reports from our districts, saying that they are well prepared,” said Phub Dorji, Head of Department of Civic and Electoral Training with ECB.

A team of six polling officials were airlifted to lunana in Gasa on Sunday. The election this time has more female registered voters.

On poll day tomorrow, government offices, schools and commercial establishments will remain close.
