SJ-Pling-HighwayRoad widening works between Trashigang and Samdrup Jongkhar will be delayed by about four to five years. Works on the 180 km highway started in December 2008 and was scheduled for completion by 2014.

Project DANTAK that is carrying out the widening of the road has blamed the monsoon season for the delay. DANTAK says works will completed only in 2018 or 2019.

80 km of the road has been completed, so far. Of that, some 35 km have been black-topped.

But, black-topping has been currently suspended because of rain, and will resume only after the monsoon is over.

As widening works continue, frequent road-blocks in summer and a bumpy and dusty road are inconveniences experienced by commuters.
