Residents in Panbang in Zhemgang are experiencing water scarcity as the pipelines are disrupted due to slow progress of ongoing town developmental activities in Panbang.

Currently, locals depend on erratic water supply and due to it maintaining cleanliness has been a mammoth task.

They said the existing pipelines are in dire need of maintenance.

“In Panbang, it has been about six years that we have been deprived of adequate drinking water,” said one of the residents, Dorji Phuntsho.

Another resident, Rinzin Wangmo said, “Cleaning and other household chores have been daunting task due to insufficient water and we travel to far flung places to get water”.

The existing water supply system was mended twice which was constructed in early 90s.

Local authorities have not thought of constructing new one as the town planning works are underway and amidst that, it is not appropriate.

However, officials said the water woes might become a thing of past, once Panbang becomes a bustling satellite town or Yenlag Thromde.

“If Panbang town planning is approved as Yenlag Throme, I am certain the water problem will be addressed as Throm-dhey thuemi would propose budget and plans as per the requirement,” said the Gup of Ngangla Gewog, Tshering Wangchuk.
