Some 30 parliamentarians, civil servants, and representatives from Civil Society Organizations congregated for a 10-day training on social policy.

To improve the well-being, social policy will target vulnerable groups such as people from the lower strata of income, differently-abled people, and elderly, among others.

The training began today at College of Natural Resources in Lobesa, Punakha.

Over the next 9 days, participants will learn various aspects of social policies from the country’s perspective as well as the international’s viewpoints.

The training will widen the acumen of the participants on how social policies need to be framed and implemented for the larger gains of people.

“It is important to come up with social policies in consultation with the people at the grass roots,” said the National Council Chairperson, Dr. Sonam Kinga.

He also highlighted the gap between the policy makers and people should be narrowed to bring in effective social policies.

According to the UINCEF representative to Bhutan, Rudolf Schwenk, since Bhutan has graduated from the status of least developed to lower middle income country, social policy is a timely.
He added there is always a room for improvement in framing and implementing social policies.

The training is a joint collaboration of Institute for GNH studies, Sherubtse College and the UNICEF.
