nas-committee-stresses-on-transfer-of-married-couple-to-same-locationWomen, Children and Youth Committee of the National Assembly recommended married couples be transferred in same location.

During the discussion in the Lower House, today, the committee submitted that civil servants working separately at different places results in family separation, marital infidelity and difficulty in upbringing of children among other reasons.

Of the almost 6,000 civil servants registered with the Civil Servants Welfare Scheme, 710 married couples were found working separately in different places.

The Bhutan Service Rules and Regulations 2012 states, “if both the husband and wife are civil servants, their simultaneous transfer to the same location, shall be facilitated, as far as possible.”

The education minister, Norbu Wangchuk said the ministry has been able to help married couples who are teachers work in the same place.

However, Lyonpo said it becomes difficult when one of the spouses has a different profession.

He added central schools can be one of the solutions for married couples to work together.

The ministry is also working on One Teacher One Subject policy
