Duty Free Shop inaugurated--The finance minister, Namgay Dorji inaugurated the Duty Free Shop of the newly formed State owned enterprise, Bhutan Duty Free Limited in Thimphu, today.

Bhutan Duty Free Limited’s CEO, Kapil Sharma said the company has been corporatised to boost financial autonomy.Duty Free Shop inaugurated

The government will own the company with a mandate to operate duty free shops in the country including the airports.

The Duty Free Shop formerly known as Foreign Drinks Store was established in 1972 under the Department of Revenue and Customs of the Finance Ministry.

The Company has been delinked from the civil service upon Royal Civil Service Commission’s recommendation.

Though the company will run as a separate entity, the mode of sales will remain same which includes tax exclusion for diplomats and privileged individuals.

However, others will also have access to duty paid goods.
