ACCThe Parliament and the Anti-corruption Commission need to improve transparency and citizen participation, a key recommendation of Anti-Corruption Commission Strengthening Report 2015, says. Transparent International had compiled the report.

The report says the goal of citizen participation is to create bridge of understanding and legitimacy between ACC and the society. “It is to promote social accountability, oversee the work and challenges faced by the commission.”

The report recommends creation of advisory committee in line with ACC and the government’s strategies. “The committee could include nine organizations that ACC works with to discuss different activities related to their work and prevailing challenges.”

Efforts were also needed to present the results of the ACC reports to the public in different spaces. The report says it should facilitate discussions and ACC should receive feedback from citizens.

According to the report, these efforts should be carried out by the ACC and the parliament concurrently. “Such efforts are expected to help spur civil society participation and build trust between ACC and existing organizations.” The report says such efforts will not require changes to existing legislation or extraordinary allocation of resources.
