Haruka-International-DHI-ShitakeMushroomA Japanese-based mushroom production company, Haruka International, is collaborating with Druk Holding and Investments to initiate its pilot project to start mushroom cultivation programme in the country.

As of now, the project has chosen Shitake mushroom for their first pilot project. The project is expected to improve farmers’ income five-fold.

Haruka International holds the reputMoU-Haruka-International-DHI-ShitakeMushroom- ation of inculcating modern technology in mushroom cultivation.

A memorandum of understanding signed between the two partners chose Shitake mushroom as it was recognised to have many health benefits.

Shitake mushroom can be grown on sawdust and rice husk and it takes five months to mature.

The product also has the potential to be sold in the international market.

The National Mushroom Centre will be carrying out the first pilot project.
