Gelephu’s border gate closed following Assam strike

gelephu-The Bhutan’s gate in Gelephu, which borders the Indian state of Assam, remained closed, today.

Many commuters travelling to Phuentsholing, Samdrup Jongkhar, Ngalam and Lhamoizhingkha will have to halt for the night in Gelephu as the strike that has been called for 36 hours.

The strike in Assam was called at 5 AM today after separatist rebel killed dozens of people in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar districts in Assam yesterday, according to local media.

The strike is to last till 5 PM tomorrow.
