The Labour Minister, Ngeema Sangay Tshempo, said they have identified 141 different vocational skills to be taught to the students. The move is to equip students with skills, a preparation of sort, so that they could take up industrial jobs later in life, he said.
Lyonpo was speaking to the business community of Samdrup Jongkhar, on Tuesday. He said schools in Bhutan teach students only how to read and write. The minister also said without the knowledge of what vocational skills entail, it will be hard for them to find jobs in the future.
The Ministry of Labour and Human Resources also have plans to give business opportunity to 3,000 people within five years. The minster told the business community of Samdrup Jongkhar that they will grant loans to the 3,000 people and will also monitor them till they stand on their own feet. Lyonpo said their earlier scheme had failed, as only 149 from 900 people, they had trained, pursued business. He said there wasn’t a proper monitoring earlier.
Lyonpo Ngeema Sangay Tshempo also highlighted that it is important to recruit more Bhutanese in private companies.
