Sipa-Chi-Doe. A seven-year-old girl died and nine others were injured at the last day of Bhutan’s biggest offering ceremony, Sipa-Chi-Doe, today.

The girl had succumbed to the head injury when one of the wooden poles from the structures fell on her. She was admitted at Punakha hospital and died at around 3:30 PM.

Meanwhile, thousands of people, the ceremony had drawn, rushed for precious material (Gow), which was hung on the top of Doe– a wooden structure.Sipa-Chi-Doe

The Doe contains precious material and jewelleries. While some believe it is good to make an attempt to take the precious items from the Doe, others believe otherwise.

The Sipa-Chi-Doe is to make offerings to all the deities and sentient beings in the universe to balance the forces of good and evil.

Great Lamas had prophesised that this ceremony would protect the nation against all threats and help uphold religious traditions. It is also said the ceremony would help safeguard the degeneration of spiritual values, and ensure peace and prosperity in the country.
