India will assure a “steadfast” and “unflinching” support to Bhutan, says the congratulatory letter, the Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, sent to the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) President, Tshering Tobgay. The letter was sent to Tshering Tobgay after his Party went on to secure maximum seats in yesterday’s elections. PDP secured 32 seats while Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT), the Party that will form the Opposition, secured 15 seats.

Dr. Manmohan Singh says that he has already instructed officials of his government to prepare for the discussions on their plan assistance to Bhutan. “We look forward to working with you and your colleagues to further enhance our cooperation for the benefit of the people of both our countries,” says Dr.Singh.

The letter goes on to say that India is and will remain sensitive to Bhutan and its interest.

He says the bilateral ties between Bhutan and India are anchored in a strong foundation of trust, mutual confidence and understanding. “I wish to reiterate India’s undiminished commitment to Bhutan in preserving these unique and special traditional ties.

Dr. Manmohan Singh has also invited PDP’s President to visit India at an early date.
