PDP-Press-ConferenceThe seven former candidates of Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) joining People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is not coalition as alleged, says PDP.

Speaking at a press conference today, PDP’s president, Tshering Tobgay, said the candidates joined PDP in their personal capacity. He added that they have been mindful and followed the Election Laws.

“The seven former DNT candidates have joined PDP as per the provision of ECB laws. Some People, particularly DPT, have alleged that the two parties have merged in a sense of coalition.  I would like to confirm that our laws don’t allow coalition that we do not have coalition.”

He also said DNT is an independent party and they would like to stay independent. PDP is independent and would like to stay same. Tshering Tobgay said a coalition does not serve the purpose of either party nor permitted by law. “So any accusations and allegations of coalition are misplaced and are intended to misguide public.”

The seven new candidates, PDP President said, has strengthened PDP team.

“We are privilege to have such highly qualified members in our teams joining PDP. We have strengthened already strong PDP team. If people should grant us mandate to govern our country for the next five years…”

Asked about the former PDP candidates, who were replaced, PDP president said except for one, the other six were tentative candidates.  “They have been willing given their seats in the larger interest of the party.”
