His Majesty the King, accompanied by her Majesty the Gyaltsuen, granted an audience to the 7th Batch of DeSuungs in Tencholing, Wangdue Phodrang, today.
While speaking to over a hundred volunteers, His Majesty the King stressed on the importance of knowing the history of one’s country.
His Majesty the King also said that it was the young graduates of the country who asked Him to start the DeSuung training programme. His Majesty the King also told the DeSuungs, that people like them inspired him.
His Majesty the King has said in the past that, “There is a higher responsibility – not written in any legal document but instead enshrined in humanity and history – a natural responsibility and duty that we all must shoulder equally, irrespective of who we are. Of paramount importance to the strength of a nation, is the ability of her people to live as one united family – a community in which interaction is marked by trust, understanding and cooperation”
The first batch of DeSuup’s was trained in early 2011.
The word DeSuung means Guardian of Peace.
