108 Jangchub Chorten, vision made reality

The raising of all 108 Stupas in Gelephu is complete, marking a historic milestone for the country. According to the Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority, GMCA, the achievement reflects the unity, selflessness, and collective commitment of the Bhutanese people.

From a vision to reality, the 108 Jangchub Chorten now stand along the banks of the Mao River in Gelephu. The occasion brought together thousands of Bhutanese and international visitors, volunteers and well-wishers, making it a historic collective effort.

At a press briefing in Gelephu today, the two Co-CEOs of the GMCA said the achievement was made possible by the extraordinary spirit and commitment of people.

Lee Seow Hiang, Co-CEO, GMCA

“It was the spirit, the expression of the commitment and the unity of the Bhutanese people plus the support of the world. Everyone came. And against many odds and skepticism, we succeeded in a short time. From the vision to reality. In the midst of building the city,” said Lee Seow Hiang, Co-CEO, GMCA.

Beyond the physical achievement, the Co-CEOs say the event demonstrated something even more significant, the selflessness, community spirit and trust among the Bhutanese people.

Pang Yee Ean, Co-CEO, GMCA

“That selflessness, community spirit, and trust that they have for the king. I will tell you I have never seen that. That will be the underlying foundation that will ensure our success,” said Pang Yee Ean, Co-CEO, GMCA.

The 108 stupas each standing 15 metres tall and spread across approximately 12 kilometres, will remain a lasting symbol of faith, a powerful demonstration of what unity and a shared vision can achieve.
