With just hours left before voters head to the polls, election authorities have completed preparations for the Thrompon and Tshogpa elections in Thimphu and Phuentshogling thromde. From setting up polling stations to deploying election officials and security personnel, all arrangements are in place for tomorrow’s vote.
In Thimphu Thromde, there are seven constituencies: Babesa, Changbangdu–Olakha, Changgangkha, Dechencholing–Taba, Jungshina–Kawajangsa, Motithang, and Norzin. Polling stations have been established in all constituencies, with some stations equipped with two polling booths to accommodate the larger number of registered voters.
“We have completed the setup of all polling stations. Polling officers were deployed from last evening, along with security personnel, and all the necessary election materials have been delivered to the polling stations,” said Pema Thinley, the returning officer of Thimphu Thromde Tshogde Election.
Thimphu Thromde has a total of 9,159 registered voters. Among them, 70 are registered postal voters, including two voters residing overseas and two persons with disabilities.
As of noon today, the Election RO office has received 55 completed postal ballots.
Similarly, preparations are also complete for the Phuentshogling Thromde elections. According to ECB officials, polling materials, including Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), will be dispatched to all designated polling stations in the morning tomorrow.
Polling officials and security personnel were given a refresher course yesterday and are deployed ahead of voting day. Officials say all stations are ready to receive voters when polls open.
According to the Election Commission, Phuentshogling Thromde has 1,150 registered voters, who will cast their votes across six demkhongs—Neydra, Pasakha, Pekarzhing, Phuentshogling Toed, Phuentshogling Mae, and Rinchending. However, Rinchending will not see a contest as there is no candidate in the constituency.
Phuentshogling has 27 registered postal voters.
Voting will start at 8 in the morning and close at 5 in the evening, followed by the counting of postal ballots and EVM results after the close of voting.
