Thimphu Thromde has reported steady progress in implementing its 13th Five-Year Plan. This was shared during the Thromde’s Mid-Term on Review, where they presented key achievements, ongoing activities, and plans. Some of the major achievements of the Thromde include road improvement, upgrading infrastructure and water security, among others.

The Thimphu Thrompon said the Thromde has recorded improvements in urban services and infrastructure with key achievements including road resurfacing and improvement, and new road development works within the Thromde.

Nu 150 M was spent on road resurfacing and improvements during the 2024–2025 financial year.

Other major ongoing activities include urban transport and related infrastructure development, drinking water supply projects, school infrastructure development, and stormwater drainage construction from Motithang to Wangchu.

Thimphu Thromde reported that 90 per cent of households now have access to treated water. The Pamtsho–Jungzhina area with over 1,300 households has been connected to the main supply, alongside improvements to existing water systems.

The Thromde has allocated over Nu 1.45bn for all these projects.

The long-awaited bridge at Dechencholing is expected to be completed within this month, while the bazam near the Centenary Farmers’ Market is scheduled for completion by September.

The Thromde also highlighted challenges linked to rapid urban growth, including increasing pressure on public services and infrastructure. The Thrompon said there is need to strengthen capacity and expand essential services

Addressing the review, the Prime Minister emphasised that Thimphu Thromde’s performance shapes global perceptions of Bhutan.

He urged continued efforts toward the 2035 goal of a top livable Thimphu–Paro, with stronger collaboration to enhance public services, transport, and school infrastructure.
