The Office of the Attorney General forwarded the Paro stabbing case to the Paro District Court today. The incident occurred in December last year in Paro, where a 25-year-old man sustained serious injuries in a knife attack and had to undergo a 13-hour surgery.

According to the OAG, the violence stemmed from a fight between two groups. The altercation reportedly began at a club in Paro and later escalated at a different location. The OAG has charged eleven suspects, all men aged 19 to 27 for their involvement in the incident. Two suspects, aged 21 and 20, have been charged with criminal attempt to commit voluntary manslaughter. Eight others face charges of battery, assault and aiding and abetting battery. The 25-year-old victim has also been charged with assault.

Moreover, two men are involved in another alleged altercation case in Thimphu. The OAG filed the charge sheet before the Thimphu District Court on April 2. The incident occurred in Thimphu on 7 December last year.
The suspects were arrested in Motithang in the same month. According to the OAG, one of them will be charged with aggravated battery, which carries a sentence ranging from a minimum of one year to less than three years, as per the Penal Code of Bhutan. The other has been charged with accomplice liability, which carries a sentence one degree lower than that of the principal offender.
