The State Trading Corporation of Bhutan Limited has strengthened fuel accessibility in the capital with the inauguration of its second fuel retail outlet in Thimphu today. Located at Jungzhina, the facility is one of the largest in STCBL’s network with a total storage capacity of 160 kilolitres for petrol and diesel, enough for about four thousand vehicles at a time. The outlet is expected to ease congestion and ensure uninterrupted fuel supply for residents of North Thimphu.
The new fuel retail outlet was consecrated this morning and will provide round-the-clock services, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
STCBL developed the outlet to improve fuel access for residents of North Thimphu and to reduce pressure on the Ramtokto fuel retail outlet.
Leki Dendup, Chief Executive Officer of STCBL said, “Jungshina is at the centre and it is established mainly for the convenience of people of the north Thimphu. But of course, it will cater to all the residence businesses and institutions of Thimphu. There are people who have trust in STCBL’s fuel. People take the trouble to go to Ramtokto. Wait there, and they don’t even mind waiting there.”
The corporation has leased 36 decimals of land from Thimphu Thromde under a 10-year agreement, with an annual lease payment of Nu 600,000.
The corporation’s official shared that the expansion supports national development by ensuring reliable fuel supply for transport, infrastructure, and commercial activities, while also creating employment opportunities.
Looking ahead, STCBL plans to commission two additional fuel retail outlets currently under construction in Nganglam and Lhamoi Dzingkha.
The Chief Executive Officer of STCBL said, “We have already started construction of similar outlets in Lhamozingkha under Dagana Dzongkhag and in Nganglam Drungkhag under Pema Gatshel Dzongkhag. With construction currently underway, we expect to complete these projects by the end of July 2026. Following that, we are also exploring other feasible locations, with a primary focus on the eastern districts.”
STCBL says it remains committed to enhancing customer convenience and supporting Bhutan’s socio-economic development through a stronger and more reliable fuel distribution network.
With the commissioning of the Jungzhina outlet, STCBL now operates 12 fuel retail outlets across 10 districts.
