The number of Bhutanese footballers joining international clubs continues to grow, with forward Dawa Tshering becoming the latest to make the move this season. Dawa has signed with Fortis FC, a top-division side competing in the Bangladesh Football League. This marks his second international stint, having previously played for India’s Delhi FC during the 2024–2025 season.

The 27-year-old left winger from Trashigang made his debut for the Bhutan national team at just 18, featuring against Palestine in the Asian Cup qualifiers.

Since then, he has represented the country at numerous international tournaments.

Moreover, he was named the Most Valuable Player of last season’s BoB Bhutan Premier League.

Dawa hopes to use this opportunity to showcase his talent and help the club secure more victories.

BBS attempted to contact Dawa for a comment, but was unavailable. However, in a post shared on Fortis FC’s official Facebook page, Dawa expressed his excitement about joining the club and his commitment to the upcoming season.

“I am really happy and excited to join Fortis FC for the upcoming season. I’m really excited to meet my teammates, coaching staff and the supporters of Fortis FC. I promise to work hard, stay disciplined and give my maximum on and off the field,” said Dawa Tshering, Forward, Fortis FC.

Fortis FC is a professional football club based in Bangladesh that competes in the Bangladesh Football League, the country’s top-tier competition, and currently sits second in the league table.

According to the Bhutan Football Federation, the growing presence of Bhutanese players in international clubs reflects the steady development of football in the country.

“Recently, we have seen a significant number of Bhutanese footballers going abroad to pursue their careers, which is a positive sign for Bhutanese football, indicating improvement. They’re getting good competitive matches, trying to gain a lot of exposure, and these players will definitely put a lot of value on their return to Bhutan and representing the national team,” said Chencho Dorji, Technical Director, Bhutan Football Federation.

Currently, four Bhutanese footballers are signed with top-division clubs outside Bhutan, including one in the Myanmar National League and three in the Bangladesh Football League.

Besides highlighting the growing competitiveness of Bhutanese football, the trend is also expected to inspire more young players to pursue professional careers abroad.
