A Community Engagement Platform is a strategic approach that brings local people together. It helps them to make decisions and solve problems that affect their daily lives. And this can be seen now at Dagor chiwog in Pema Gatshel where the initiative was introduced only early this year.

A group of locals has gathered in Dagor chiwog to build a kitchen for a community Lhakhang. The idea was born during a meeting two months ago.

Kezang, a resident said, “Earlier, we used to depend entirely on the government for everything. But after learning about this platform, we realized we could also contribute. So, we held a meeting and decided to build the kitchen ourselves. Now, we are almost done.”

Such initiatives not only help improve community facilities but also build resilience and a stronger sense of ownership among the people. It encourages teamwork, shared responsibility, and better decision-making for the future.

Sonam Tshering, a resident said, “His Majesty always says that what matters most is doing, not just saying whether we can or cannot. So, we came together and started the work. We did face challenges in getting materials in this remote area. If the government supports us with supplies, we are more than ready to provide the labor.”

Sherab, Dagor Tshogpa said, “I feel very encouraged now. The two chairpersons of this platform meet people from different villages, gather their issues, and bring them to me. Together, we discuss and make collective decisions that benefit everyone.”

Residents are not only contributing their labor but also materials. They plan to take on even more community activities in the near future.

According to the Anti-Corruption Commission’s Annual Report 2023-2024, corruption reports against gewog administration were the most numerous among all agencies.

The programme developed by the home ministry is expected to combat corruption and bring transparency in local government offices. It has improved the implementation of activities.

And the results of these efforts are visible.
