An air of festivity is sweeping across the otherwise quiet Pema Gatshel. The district is all set to host the first-ever bathing carnival. The festival organisers are expecting more than a thousand guests to attend the three-day celebrations.
The venue for the festival is at Telung. Locals are arranging stalls to showcase and sell their products. The event is an opportunity to promote Pema Gatshel as a tourist destination.
“We have many different products here. Guests can explore items from all 11 gewogs of the district. We warmly welcome everyone to join the celebration,” said Pema Wangda, a resident in Norbugang Gewog, Pema Gatshel.
“We are happy, as international tourists may also visit. At the same time, many people will gather here for the Blessed Rainy Day,” said Kintu Zangmo, a resident in Telung, Dechhenling Gewog, Pema Gatshel.
“We are delighted about this event. As our district has long been considered remote, this program will help attract tourists in the future. We are excited to be part of it,” said Minjur Wangdi, a resident in Tshobalay, Dungmin Gewog, Pema Gatshel.
The three-day festival will feature cultural programmes, water-based events, and traditional games. His Royal Highness Gyaltshab Jigme Dorji Wangchuck will grace the event.
