Some local leaders of Dagana proposed relocating the Daga town to Dagapela. They said that Dagapela town is strategically located and has ongoing infrastructure development. However, the proposal was turned down during the Dagana Dzongkhag Tshogdu last week.
Currently, private constructions are underway in all three local area plans in Dagapela town.
Situated along the Dagapela-Lhamoi Dzingkha highway, the town, once complete, is expected to be a model urban centre with all necessary facilities.
According tolocal leaders, relocating the Daga town to Dagapela would bring greater economic benefitsas the town spans over 780 acres and is closer to many gewogs.
Meanwhile, the present Daga town covers only 110 acres with only two neighbouring gewogs of Tseza and Kana.
Kuenzang Tenzin, Tsendagang Mangmi said, “Today, the district administration has provided Dagapela town with an adequate drinking water supply. Therefore, I am proposing that the town be relocated from Daga town to Dagapela.”
Tashiding Gup Ratna Bdr. Singer said, “For example, Pema Gatshel Dzong was once in Kheri Gonpa but was moved to Denchi. Even a Dzong can be relocated, why not the town? Relocating the town to Dagapela would benefit five gewogs of Tashiding, Tsendagang, Gozhi, Gesarling, Dorona and even Khebisa.”
Gozhi Mangmi Sangay Wangmo said, “I support the Tsendagang Mangmi’s proposal as relocating the town to Dagapela is feasible.”
However, some members have expressed their concerns.
Kana Gup Chador said, “What will the present Daga town be used for if it is relocated to Dagapela? This may not be possible as we have the Daga Rabdhey and district administration here. We should instead discuss how we can improve the present Daga town.”
Bal Bdr. Rana, Dagana Dzongkhag Tshogdu Chairperson, said, “As mentioned by the district engineer, we don’t see much problem since both towns are receiving almostequal budgets. We will now see the house’s support for the proposal to relocate the town to Dagapela.”
The proposal, however, didn’t get through with only 13 out of 29 Dzongkhag Tshogdu members raising their hands in favour of the proposal.
