For a country whose identity has long been shaped by its culture, spirituality, and natural beauty, Bhutan will soon also share its story through music. One artist will earn the chance to carry the nation’s voice onto an international stage, marking Bhutan’s debut in the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest Asia 2026. The final five contestants will compete for the honour on 11 August.
Music has always been an important part of Bhutan’s story. From traditional folk songs passed down through generations to contemporary compositions shaped by changing times, music reflects the country’s identity, values and aspirations.
Now, that story is set to reach a global audience.
After months of auditions and live performances, the search has been narrowed down to five finalists, each hoping to become the voice of Bhutan on an international stage.
The winner will represent Bhutan, with an original song, at the Eurovision Song Contest Asia 2026, which will be held in November in Bangkok, Thailand.
“It is in the hands of the artists to determine how we represent our songs and music,” said one of the finalists, Tshering Tobgyel Jamtsho from Baeyul301.
“If we do not make good use of this platform, we will not be able to guide our future generations towards creativity. Just as K-pop has become Korea’s soft power, I think our soft power lies in using our creativity and showcasing it to the world.”
The Grand Finale will be broadcast live on 11 August on BBS, the broadcasting organiser.
First launched in 1956, the Eurovision Song Contest has evolved into one of the world’s largest music competitions.
“Bhutan is unique in its music, songs, traditional attire and rich culture. Today, our artists are also bringing fresh creativity that can stand alongside the rest of the world. This platform allows us to showcase Bhutanese music, our language and our cultural identity to an international audience,” said Tshering Dorji, the deputy chairperson of the Internal Organising Committee, Eurovision Song Contest Asia.
The Department of Media Creative Industry & Intellectual Property is providing financial support for Bhutan’s National Selection Show.
As the countdown to the Grand Finale begins, the spotlight is no longer just on finding a winner. It is about introducing Bhutan’s voice to a new international audience for the very first time.
