The Trongsa District Court has sentenced 43-year-old Nubi-Tangsibji MP Tashi Dorji to three years, three months, and 28 days in prison for molesting a teenager in 2022. The judgment was passed yesterday. The incident occurred when he was serving as a Gewog Administrative Officer. The case was filed in court in October last year.
The incident happened when the 14-year-old girl was with her younger siblings at home and their parents were away collecting mushrooms.
During the trial, the MP claimed that it was an accident and did not harass her intentionally.
However, according to the judgment, the court found that the MP deliberately molested the girl with sexual intent, as supported by the victim’s consistent testimony, his suspicious behaviour, and the absence of any motive for a false accusation. According to the judgment, he also attempted to lure the victim to his house.
Meanwhile, the incident came to light during an educational session about appropriate and inappropriate touching at school in 2023. The girl became emotional and disclosed the incident.
The school authority then reported the matter to Trongsa Hospital, which in turn informed The PEMA Secretariat.
