Bhutan’s football sensation Chencho Gyeltshen is set to embark on a new journey with Nepal’s Lalitpur City FC. The football star has signed for the Nepalese club for one season which lasts two months. This will be his second stint in the Nepal.

Chencho, known for his blistering speed and goal-scoring prowess, said his decision to join Lalitpur FC was driven by the club’s vision, and an old promise.

During his Machhindra days, he says he had made a promise to Lalitpur’s owner who was then one of the sponsors of Machhindra that he would return to Nepal.

“When I was previously playing for Machhindra football club in Nepal, after around five to six games, I got injured and could not complete the league. I promised the club’s owner that I would return to Nepal and complete the league.”

29-year-old Chencho nicknamed the “Bhutanese Ronaldo” also played for several foreign clubs such as Minerva Punjab, Bengaluru FC and Chittagong Abahani among others.

He believes his experience and exposure with the foreign clubs has shaped him into a more versatile and mature player.

“A player’s knowledge and experience depend on how many games he plays. Each country’s league and football style is different. But since I have played in Nepal before, I feel that it won’t be very challenging for me to adjust.”

Chencho is currently with the National team getting ready for an international friendly against Yemen.

He says he is ready to start the next chapter in his sporting career with the Nepalese league which starts from 29th March.
