Six students receive HRH Gyalsey Math Award

Six students were awarded the HRH Gyalsey Math Award in the capital today. More than 3,800 students studying in middle and higher secondary schools competed for the award. They sat for an online test on the 1st of November, last year.

Damchoe Tenzin from Karma Academy in Paro bagged the first prize in the higher secondary school category.

“I am honoured to receive this award and I look forward to participating in similar activities in the future. I will continue to deepen my understanding of mathematics.

Karma Yuden from Samtengang Higher Secondary School in Wangdue Phodrang stood second and Pema Yugyal from Desi High School came in the third position.

In the middle secondary school category, Phuentsholing Higher Secondary School’s Sujana Doortraj secured the top position, followed by Tshering Gyeltshen of Bjishong Higher Secondary School in Gasa.

Kinzang Choden from Jomotshangkha Middle Secondary School in Samdrup Jongkhar came in the third position.

“I am grateful for this award and will continue to expand my knowledge in mathematics.”

The prize amount for first-position holders is Nu 150,000. The second and third position holders are given Nu 100,000 and Nu 75,000 respectively.

According to officials, this year saw the highest number of students competing for the award compared to the previous years.

The annual HRH Gyalsey Math Award was instituted in 2022 to promote mathematics in the education system and also to encourage students to take an interest in mathematics.
