Free bus services to ease Ed Sheeran concert rush

With Thimphu all set to groove to Ed Sheeran’s chart-topping hits in just about eight days the city’s authorities are taking steps to ensure the music is the only jam in town. To avoid traffic congestion in the capital, free bus services will be provided to all residents and visitors on the day of the highly anticipated concert.

Up to 14 city buses will be deployed at key locations, operating within designated hours to ensure a hassle-free travel experience for concert-goers and commuters as the venue is expected to accommodate a crowd of around 20,000 people.

The free bus service will run from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM before pausing and will resume after the show from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM.

To further ease congestion, Changlam will be closed to traffic from Thursday afternoon.

This initiative aims to reduce vehicular traffic and provide a smooth, efficient experience for everyone attending the event.

“From the south, we will be starting service from Babesa Zero and also from Olakha there will be buses. The buses which are coming from the south will be coming to YHS’s parking lot. And from there they will have to walk to the stadium. From Motithang Higher Secondary School parking, we have two buses applying towards the town, which will come to the City Mall parking lot. So, from there they will have to walk. And then we have buses from the RCSC parking and the National Assembly parking and also from the Supreme Court parking which will be coming towards the town,” said Passang Tshering, director of City Bus Service.

Ed Sheeran fans and even the general public are encouraged to take advantage of this convenient service, leaving their cars behind to let the city buses take the wheel. So, grab your tickets, hop on a bus, and sing your heart out to Ed Sheeran’s hits while Thimphu keeps moving!
