The health ministry said they are closely monitoring the situation regarding Mpox along the country’s borders. The ministry has strengthened surveillance at airports and border areas, ensuring that health facilities are prepared to detect and manage potential cases.
Mpox, formerly known as Monkeypox, was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the World Health Organisation in August. Nepal reported a new case recently. The disease has been detected in 127 countries. Mpox is a viral illness caused by the monkeypox virus, which has symptoms such as skin rash, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy and swollen lymph nodes.
Over 55 thousand inbound passengers have been screened at the Paro International Airport to date. Around 70 passengers travelling from affected countries have been monitored at the airport’s health office. There is no reported case of Mpox in the country.
