Man sentenced to nine years for statutory rape

Tashichholing Dungkhag Court in Samtse sentenced a man, 29, to nine years imprisonment for statutory rape. The sentence is non-bailable.

He was detained along with the girl, 17, from Phuentsholing. The girl’s parents had filed a missing report with Sibsoo police after she had gone missing. She was a class VII student.

Both the convict and the girl confessed to have engaged in sexual intercourse.
