Bhutan has secured its place as an outstanding travel destination in the Chinese market. The National Geographic Traveler China awarded Bhutan with the ‘Outstanding Destination Excellence Award’ at the magazine’s 18th Golden Award in December last year. This is the first time the country has received an award in the Chinese market.

According to the Department of Tourism, the recognition is expected to promote Bhutan as an outstanding destination for Chinese travellers seeking both environmental consciousness and profound cultural immersion.

The Department of Tourism’s Director General, Dorji Dhradhul said, “As we all know China is one of the biggest suppliers of tourists globally. And also this award is associated with National Geographic which is associated with landscapes, cultures and the wonders of our planet. We need to preserve these for our future generations. Therefore, this is also a big recognition of the sustainability initiatives that our country has taken particularly in tourism.”

The National Geographic Traveler magazine is one of the first international travel magazines published in China. The magazine inspires readers to travel and provides them with reader-friendly service information to choose their destination.
