The Royal Institute of Management (RIM) will start two new masters degree programmes by 2013 and 2014. In a press conference today, the institute said, a three member delegation visited some of the reputed universities abroad, recently to expand the institutional network.

The delegation was led by the Chairperson of RIM Board of Directors, the Labour and Human Resources Minister, Dorji Wangdi.

Lyonpo Dorji Wangdi said the two new masters programmes will be Masters in Business Administration and Masters in Supply Chain Management.

RIM will be starting the MBA course by next year.

Lyonpo said that they have signed a letter of intent with the Faculty of the Business, Government and Law, University of Canberra.

The masters degree program in Supply Chain Management will begin from 2014.

Lyonpo said, to create a strong top quality management education and training programmes in RIM, the delegation visited reputed universities and higher education institutions in Australia, Singapore and Thailand. The delegation has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with Management Development Institute of Singapore and Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok. They also finalised signing of a MOU with the Civil Service College in Singapore.

“The areas of cooperation are broad and we have specific programs with each one of them. And it is to take the programs of RIM at higher level in terms of quality as well as broadening the courses,” said the minister.

Lyonpo also said that with signing of the MoUs, it will further strengthen the capability of the RIM in designing and delivering the programmes to support both civil service and private sector human resource development.

The RIM will also start short executive management development programmes.

Currently RIM offers nine different courses. They are two master degree programmes, three diploma courses and four postgraduate diploma courses.

Meanwhile, the RIM delegation also visited the AusAID Headquarters Office in Canberra in Australia.

“I have good news. They informed us they will be doubling up the AusAID Scholarship to Bhutan which means we will have more assistance from government of Australia,” said Lyonpo Dorji Wangdi.
