The Zambalha Cooperative, considered the most profitable cooperative in Nganglam, Pema Gatshel, is expanding its business. The group recently opened a new two-story milk processing unit. The new, larger facility will enable the cooperative to address marketing challenges during the summer by producing yoghurt and cottage cheese, commonly known as paneer.

The Zambalha Cooperative has unveiled its new milk processing unit, which will now produce paneer, and yoghurt, in addition to butter and cheese.

These new machines are for the production of yoghurt and paneer. The three machines were procured at a cost of Nu 700,000. The expansion of their product line is aimed at addressing the lower demand for cheese and butter during the summer months.

“In winter, we don’t have any problem selling cheese and butter. But it is during summer that we struggle to market our products,” said Jamyang Nima, the Secretary of the Zambalha Corporative based in Norboogang, Nganglam. “We hope we won’t face problems hereafter, as we will be producing paneer, processed cheese, and yoghurt.”

“In the past, we have been processing only cheese and butter. Now that we will be producing paneer, we are hoping it will also increase our income,” said the Cooperative’s Chairperson, Palden Dorji.

Established in 2016, the cooperative has more than 70 members today.
