If you love food along with some music, then you need to check out the CSI and Food Fair at Centenary Park in Thimphu. The weeklong fair, which kick-started today, has a host of local cuisines and other food items on display for visitors. The event is a part of the 115th National Day build-up programme.

Six new local products ranging from soya milk to potato chips and an online music app were launched today on the first day. The launch is expected to help promote the new products and create linkages with potential sponsors and customers.

More than 50 stalls based on the three themes of youth, entrepreneurship and technology have been set up across the Centenary Park.

“We have three distinct objectives of the fair. First is technology. The second is entrepreneurship. The third is the youth of the nation,” said Kuenzang, the Deputy Chief Industry Officer under the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

“Some of the technology that we are working with is artificial intelligence, blockchain, robotics, drones, and electric vehicles and we hope that these products that we are working with can be scaled into the industry in the country. That way Bhutan would be able to export technology products,” said Chirag Sharma, an Analyst with the Druk Holding Investment.

“Fair like this during the national day is like a guide to the future. It teaches us how important entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs are. In developing countries, there aren’t many job opportunities. This will help reduce unemployment,” said Ugyen Dorji from ARTHI Bhutan.

One of the main aims of the fair is to promote local products and encourage inter-business networking. More than 60 entrepreneurs are involved in the CSI and Food Fair.

Apart from the stalls, the fair has several other activities including live music shows, free movie screenings as well as a game zone.
