With online gambling becoming rampant in the country, the Home and Cultural Affairs Minister, Ugyen Dorji said there should be tougher punishment for gambling. He said it is about time the laws are amended. The Jomotsangkha-Martshala Constituency MP, Norbu Wangzom questioned the minister on the preventive measures taken to deal with the issue during the question hour session today.

The Home and Cultural Affairs Minister said, “Gambling is graded as a petty misdemeanour with a prison term ranging from a month to a year. I think the law is quite lenient. People gamble using their phones online. Because of it, it will be difficult for the police to track down every one. If people complain to the police, the RBP will not leave any stones unturned.”
